About the service

What is it and how does it work?

The control units of Mercedes-Benz vehicles contain many features that the hardware supports but that were switched off at the factory. Coding activates these features and personalizes your car’s instrument cluster, infotainment and lighting experience.

Highlighted Mercedes codings: the AMG instrument cluster menu (performance displays such as oil temperature, G-force and engine data), expanded color options for ambient lighting, video playback while driving (video in motion), start-stop last-state memory, adjusting drive mode options, mirror folding on locking, and changing the instrument cluster startup screens. The features that can be applied depend on the car’s body code (W205, W213, W177, etc.), infotainment system (NTG / MBUX) and equipment package.

Some features, such as ambient lighting, can only be enabled if the car has the relevant hardware; we don’t recommend coding a feature without the hardware for it. The current settings of all control units are backed up before the work, and factory settings can be restored if desired.

Can the AMG menu be enabled on non-AMG cars?

On many current Mercedes-Benz models, the AMG menu can be activated through coding if the cluster software supports it. Suitability depends on the body code and the cluster software version.

Can colors be added to a car without ambient lighting?

Coding only activates existing hardware. If the car doesn’t have ambient lighting hardware, it can’t be added through coding; we give separate advice where hardware needs to be added.
